The most beautiful routes in Sweden
There is something magical and unique about Swedish nature. Ideal for motorhome enthusiasts to be enchanted and captivated! The aurora borealis in winter, the midnight sun in summer or the magnificence and generosity of nature par excellence inspire everyone. Rocky coasts and white sandy beaches, deep green forests and pastures full of wild flowers: Sweden convinces with a fabulous diversity and calming, impressive "atmosphere". It is also important not to forget the Swedish traditions. After all, progressive and modern Sweden is crazy about centuries-old traditions and celebrations. Midsummer, where they celebrate the longest day of the year, is a big holiday, almost as big as Christmas. They also celebrate Easter and a crab feast and a variety of "unholy" days, including Cinnamon Bun Day, Waffle Day and practically an entire season dedicated to a sticky almond paste and a cream bun.
This is what awaits you on this route:
Sweden is one of the largest and most sparsely populated countries in Europe. Swedish Lapland is one of the last wildernesses in our latitudes, and off Sweden’s wild coast lie tens of thousands of islands. Thanks to a network of national parks, hiking trails, camping and motorhome sites along with good, natural infrastructure, even the most remote part of the country is accessible to “mobilists”. You just have to “experience” it individually and with your own eyes. In a country as large and diverse as Sweden, you are sure to find a favorite place that suits your interests and where you feel comfortable. In Swedish, such places are called “smultronställen” after the wild strawberries that can be found in many, beautiful places in the summer and can be snacked on immediately. Each region of Sweden has its own special charms. Northern Sweden, including the legendary Swedish Lapland, is unique. Here you can marvel at the world’s first “ice hotel”, and at the end of an exciting day sit around the campfire with the Sami people and hear stories about dog sledding adventures and reindeer herding. You should definitely taste the regional specialty “Souvas”. In addition, there is hardly a better view of the fantastic Northern Lights than from the Aurora Sky Station.
In summer we are attracted by fishing, or rather fly fishing. Fishing your own salmon or Arctic char in the glow of the midnight sun and then roasting it on the grill awakens a sense of adventure and romance. Of course, you should also lace up your hiking boots here and set out on the famous King’s Trail (Kungsleden), for example. An impressive nature experience! The cities of Luleå and Kiruna are the last outposts of civilization, modernity and convenience, just minutes from pristine wilderness.
Northern Sweden and Lapland are indeed incomparable. Central Sweden attracts with numerous interesting places, events and activities. It is clear that we must visit the capital Stockholm, but the medieval cities of Uppsala and Sigtuna, which are fighting for the title of the “prettiest city” in the country, should not be missing from our itinerary. Further north, in the province of Dalarna, be sure to visit the impressive copper mine in Falun, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The south of Sweden offers open landscapes, Skånes, forests and lakes in Astrid Lindgren’s homeland Småland, sandy and rocky beaches by the sea and colorful Swedish cottages everywhere. The large islands of Gotland and Öland are popular vacation destinations. The two seaside metropolises of Gothenburg and Malmö are ideal for city trips where you can combine culture, pleasure and nature experiences. An absolute must is also a Gotland – visit. Gotland, Sweden’s island of knights and rooks, largest island in the country, is a dream destination in the Baltic Sea thanks to sandy beaches, limestone cliffs, mysterious rock formations and culinary specialties. The capital Visby experienced its heyday in the Middle Ages and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its historic city center. The neighboring island of Fårö is also worth a visit.
