Witzenhausen

Witzenhausen cherry orchard in the fairytale-like geo nature park Frau Holle-Land
The cherry and university town of Witzenhausen is charmingly nestled in the romantic Werra Valley in the Frau-Holle-Land Geo-Nature Park and is the center of one of the largest and oldest cherry-growing areas in Germany. The unique landscape around Witzenhausen with the medieval Berlepsch Castle is ideal for hiking and biking trips. The region offers an extensive network of routes, for example on the Werratalradweg to the neighboring towns of Bad Sooden-Allendorf and Hann. Münden leads. During the cherry blossom, two cherry trails are especially recommended. They run directly through the cherry-growing areas. Around Witzenhausen you can also go canoeing on the dreamy Werra, horseback riding or gliding.
