Things to see and experience
Praia de Mira is the only beach in the world to have been awarded the Blue Flag for more than 30 consecutive years. It is the ideal place to spend a few days relaxing, taking a dip in the sea and watching the “Arte Xávega”, a type of trawling where the net is pulled into the beach. Thousands of tourists visit the city of Mira every year, and this number has increased exponentially in recent years.
Mira is also a privileged place for birdwatching: there are around 198 different cataloged species here.
Just a 45-minute drive away, you can visit the city of Coimbra, where you can explore the Joanine Library of the University of Coimbra, which replaced the old university bookshop and owes its name to the monarch who ordered its construction in 1717: King John V the Magnanimous became known as a great patron of culture, science and art and this library is a remarkable testimony to the king’s cultural policy
