LEISURE IN THE AREA
Bike paths
The paved service road along the canal is open to pedestrians and bicyclists and allows for almost full-length, grade-free bike rides on both sides in close proximity to the ships. The Translate to the respective other channel side with one of the numerous ferries is free of charge. This had already been ordered by Kaiser Wilhelm in order to achieve greater acceptance among the population, as the artificial waterway eel–
ter traffic routes intersects. The cycle paths along the Kiel Canal are part of the
German Ferry Route opened in May 2004, an approximately 250-kilometer-long vacation route that runs from Bremervörde on the Oste River to Kiel.
