The zoo, founded in 1964, initially only housed native animal species. With the great commitment of the zoo employees, Perleberg citizens and companies, the facility experienced constant expansion and breeding success. Modern, partly accessible enclosures, the Eulenburg, a brown bear enclosure and now also exotic animal species such as meerkats and dingoes offer visitors an unforgettable experience in the extensive facility near the forest. The zoo festival traditionally always takes place in June.
