Fairytale park at the Vitalpark
Our city has a heart for children. A lovingly designed fairy tale-park, nestled in a magical landscape on the northern edge of the city, right at the Vitalpark, will make your hearts beat faster if you encounter all the fairy tale figures of the Brothers Grimm. It will be an adventurous journey through the world of fairy tales. If everything is scented out, you can have a lot of fun in a child-friendly pedal pool and in a small grading system and at the same time do something for your health. Not far from the city, in a westerly direction, you can marvel at the kingdom of the dwarfs created by nature. But also in the walls of the old town are fabulous places to track down.

TOURISM AND LEISURE TIME IN HEILIGENSTADT
In the immediate vicinity of the geographic center of Germany, between Leine and Geislede, lies the over 1.000 year old town „Heilbad Heiligenstadt“, the traditional capital of „the Eichsfeld“. Nearly all of Heiligenstadt is surrounded by forest and greenery. In the southern part of the town lies the city forest, a part of the idyllic natural park „Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal“, in the eastern part lies the „Dünwald“, which extends in a nearly 40 km long arch from Heiligenstadt to Großlohra in the district Nordhausen. The mointain „Iberg“ (453.2 meters above the sea level) in the city forest is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Heiligenstadt. Every year on the last weekend of June, thousands of visitors from all over Germany come up there to watch the traditional „Iberg-race“ of the touring and racing cars. Tourism in Heiligenstadt - this is also closely linked to hiking and biking. A well developed hiking and cycling route network allows visitors to explore the city and the surrounding area without a car and experience nature in the middle of Germany.
Culture-minded tourists should explore the center of Heiligenstadt. Especially popular are the „Literaturmuseum Theodor Storm“, the „Eichsfelder Heimatmuseum“, the baroque castle in Mainz on the „Friedensplatz“ or the „Klausmühle“. The mill was built in 1748 and stands on the site where once you could find the birthplace of the well-known carving sculptor Tilman Riemenschneider. The city has many churches and chapels. The magnificent church of St. Marien with its two octagonal portals towers or the St. Annen chapel with one of the oldest figures of „Eichsfeld“-family are among the most popular tourist destinations in Heiligenstadt. As a health resort, Heiligenstadt also provides spa guests with numerous recreation offers. The „Vitalpark“ with six different swimming and bathing areas, seven saunas and steam baths, wellness offers and the picturesque waterfall in the „Heinrich-Heine-Kurpark“ leave nothing to be desired for visitors and spa guests. You should definitely get to know it: the Eichsfeld, a hill between the Harz and the Thuringian Forest at Dreiländereck Thuringia, Lower Saxony and Hesse, in the middle of Germany and at the origin oft the rivers Leine and Unstrut.
